Mobilpenge can now be used on buses, trains and the metro in the Copenhagen area

As of today, Mobilpenge, the new mobile payment solution, can be used to buy mobile tickets for bus, train and metro journeys in the Copenhagen area.

The transport companies in the Copenhagen area, DSB, DSB S-tog, Movia, Metroselskabet and The Public Transport Authority are now ready to receive Mobilpenge as payment for mobile tickets. DSB, one of the partnering players, is delighted to be involved right from the start:

“There is an enormous interest from our customers in being able to pay via a mobile phone. So it’s a pleasure to be able to offer yet another means of payment to anyone with a mobile phone, who prefer payment through the bank rather than via the phone bill,” says Niklas Marschall, Sales Director at DSB S-tog.
The transport companies selected Unwire as the solution provider for issuing mobile tickets and handling Mobilpenge payments.

In addition to the transport companies in the greater Copenhagen area, other merchants and service providers are poised to start receiving payments via Mobilpenge shortly.

Mobilpenge builds a bridge between the bank and the mobile phone

Mobilpenge now gives Danes a new, flexible way to pay via their mobile phones, as the solution quite simply links the mobile phone to the user’s bank account.

“With Mobilpenge, you can now pay wherever you are; you don’t need to stand in a queue to buy a train ticket, for example. This means you’ve always got money in your pocket, and you are not dependent on cash. Mobilpenge has been developed by the banks and Nets, and we’re delighted to have had a hand in developing a good supplement to existing means of payment,” says Tina Füssel, Group Executive Vice President of Infrastructure at Nets.

Mobilpenge opens up a number of new possibilities. You can make purchases of up to DKK 1,500 per day, and you can use your company mobile to make personal purchases because the money will be withdrawn from your private account. Parents can also link a child’s mobile number to their account – and, of course, cap the amount that can be spent. The money is debited directly from the account, not via the phone bill, as is the case with surcharged text messages.

Most Danish banks allow their customers to link to Mobilpenge, with sign-up via online banking. Individual banks will inform their customers about the options they offer for linking with Mobilpenge.
